June 2, 2025 — Chhaten, North Sikkim: In a heartbreaking incident, a massive landslide struck an Indian Army camp in Chhaten, Sikkim, late on Sunday night. The natural disaster has claimed the lives of three army personnel and left six soldiers missing, as per official reports.

The landslide, triggered by relentless rainfall in the northeastern region, hit the military base around 7 PM on June 1. Rescue teams rushed to the scene and managed to save four soldiers with minor injuries. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with the Army and disaster response forces working against the clock to locate the missing soldiers.

The incident is part of a larger weather crisis in the Northeast, where continuous heavy rains over the past four days have led to severe floods and multiple landslides. As of now, the death toll in the region has reached 36, including 10 fatalities each in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

Project Swastik has been launched by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to restore damaged infrastructure. Relief camps have also been set up for families displaced by the disaster, while the Army ensures support in affected zones.

Authorities have urged caution as heavy rains are expected to continue in the region for the next 48 hours. Meanwhile, prayers pour in for the missing soldiers and those affected by this catastrophe.
